Individual therapy remains the core of the services we offer. This is because it affords a very personalised and in-depth approach for each person we see.
Generally we see individuals for two sessions of assessment before spelling out ways that we believe we can best help. We are committed to having objective ways of gauging therapy progress, typically through the repeated use of brief questionnaires. At the commencement of therapy and at regular intervals afterward, we ask each person we see to complete brief questionnaires which measure not only levels of distress, but also of life satisfaction and well-being. We also seek very brief client feedback after each session as to how each session has gone. This helps to make the most of therapy contact.
The length of therapy contact will vary according to each person’s issues, circumstances and therapy goals. The majority of therapy interventions will be offered within ten sessions. We shall aim to provide clear rationales if lengthier treatment is recommended, as tends to be the case for longstanding or more severe difficulties.
Initial appointments are generally arranged weekly. This helps bring clarity and build momentum to addressing problems and bringing about desired changes. Sessions may then be reduced in frequency, partly to help spread therapy contact over a longer period. We encourage each person to attend at least a session or two after any particular problem has been addressed, largely to help maintain new gains.
