Staff

Chris Mackey and Associates is a progressive and innovative specialist psychology practice which offers a wide range of specialist psychology services. Our mission is to improve mental health services, locally and beyond. We pursue this goal by offering an excellent standard of clinical services locally, and by conveying information of uncommonly high quality through free public talks and education sessions, blogs and research disseminated at national and international conferences and via this website. We have attracted and retained the most highly qualified staff of any public or private psychology service in Geelong, largely as a result of the quality of administrative support and clinical supervision offered as well as by providing a very positive social environment, flexibility of hours, relative autonomy and unmatched facilities. We offer generous remuneration according to staff training and experience. We also have a generous staff development budget and provide an extensive library with a wide range of educational resources.

We function as a centre of excellence in not only the clinical field, but also in the research and business fields as reflected by our attainment of relevant awards detailed elsewhere on this website. We have well-developed systems in staff selection, employment, supervision, development and appraisal.

Our uncompromisingly high standards are maintained firstly by employing specialist psychologists who have completed at least a Masters Degree in Clinical Psychology, Clinical Health Psychology, Counselling Psychology or Neuropsychology, often with additional experience in relevant specialist health services.

Job Description

Chris Mackey and Associates is a progressive, research-oriented private psychology clinic based in Geelong, currently staffed by 12 specialist Psychologists. We seek a creative, competent and experienced Clinical Psychologist with integrity and passion to join our team. Requirements include (for P2) at least a Masters or Doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology and eligibility for registration in Victoria, and (for P3) Membership of the Clinical College of the Australian Psychological Society and at least two years' full-time clinical experience following postgraduate qualification.

Our organization has been purposefully developed over 16 years to offer an optimal environment for clinicians to develop and maintain the highest standards of their profession and to further develop their specialized skills in the context of extensive supervisory and administrative support. Our practice is recognized nationally for objectively demonstrating the effectiveness of therapy we offer (see Research page of this website). We have deliberately sought to offer a range of occupational opportunities for specialist psychologists which we believe have been limited in the public sector since the advent of case management systems and an emphasis on generic models of care. We aim to promote optimal work satisfaction and wellbeing of staff through offering a rewarding career structure, exceptional work facilities, opportunity for flexible hours and other family friendly work practices, excellent remuneration, realistic caseloads (booking in six clients to see an average of five), a stimulating range of work, regular expert supervision (by principal psychologist who has 26 years' clinical supervisory experience in specialist public and private mental health settings), extensive administrative support, relative autonomy, clinical research opportunities, generous conference leave and enjoyable colleagueship. Apart from generous standard remuneration in acknowledgment of specialist training and experience, we offer further opportunities for income supplementation based on a bonus system structured around key performance indicators.

We are committed to community education about mental health issues and regularly offer free public talks and present our clinical research at national and international conferences and to student groups. These features and the uncommon advantages of working with us will be apparent from further exploration of this website.

The successful applicant will likely have excellent interpersonal skills and supervised experience gained in a specialist setting (preferably including a government hospital or clinic) working with those suffering from such conditions as depression, PTSD and other anxiety disorders, relationship difficulties and a range of other clinical and behavioural problems. Clinical experience with children is an additional advantage.

The successful candidate will enjoy extensive opportunities for professional development including individual and weekly group supervision and paid conference leave.

Our clinic offers rewarding colleagueship and excellent facilities including two well-appointed practice buildings incorporating staff retreats, research library and seminar room.

Regular clinical supervision is provided by the Principal Psychologist who has presented clinical research at numerous prestigious national and international conferences and received the 2001 and 2002 Practitioner’s Awards from the Australian Association of Cognitive and Behavioural Therapy (Vic Branch) for his work in the trauma field.
